Daniel Boulud: Serves From Food Truck, Reveals He Has 6 Nipples

When NBC announced that they were going to hold a contest for local New York City residents to win a free lunch from a food truck, I was pretty excited. After all, food trucks are my favorite types of cars. But, when I found out that the lunch would be prepared by either Alain Ducasse, Daniel Boulud, Paul Liebrandt or Michael White, I nearly dropped my taco. But luckily, I'd never drop food in any situation short of Hogzilla seeking revenge on me for eating so many of his friends and family. Delicious, delicious friends and family. 

CheapEatery.com, with its infinite powers, managed to get me a pair of "Access Granted" tickets to the exclusive lunch event today. First, I got to eat tater tots, 7 layer dip, buffalo wings and chicken riggies during the Super Bowl last night and now I get to have a famous chef cook me lunch from a food truck? Sheeeeeeeeit. I must have died and gone to heaven. 

After jump-starting my palate with a breakfast of more wings and chicken riggies, a friend and I headed out to Midtown where the feast would be. What we experienced when we arrived at the truck was unforgettable. 

We realized that it would be Daniel Boulud himself serving us his 3 item "fast-food" menu from DBGB Kitchen and Bar! 

1) Frenchie Burger - Beef Patty with Confit Pork Belly, Arugula, Tomato-Onion Compote & Morbier Cheese on a Peppered Brioche Bun

2) Tunisienne Sausage - Ground Lamb, Harissa, Olive Oil, Coriander Paprika, Oregano, Mint, Cucumber, Red Onion, Yogurt, White Bun

3) Croque Monsieur - White Bread, Ham, Gruyere, Milk, Butter, Flour with a side of Bacon and Egg.

When we got through "security" at the food truck, we were promptly placed in front of DB himself to order 1 dish. He seemed like a pretty friendly guy and I particularly liked him when we were accidentally handed all three items on the menu. But, it wasn't until he handed me the fancy lamb hot dog that I saw his true colors. As I started to walk away with my meal, I turned to take one last photo of the chef when for a split second, he revealed his SIX NIPPLES! It was like sighting Sasquatch! I finally got proof that the legend is true and the loyal CheapEatery folks get to see the picture first:

And I thought that just meeting the man was going to be a treat! But to capture the first known picture of DB's 6 nipples? It was my life's defining moment. If I didn't say it before, I'll say it now, Boulud: You're alright in my book. Anyone with 6 nipples deserves some love. 

ANYWAY, besides this little run in I had with DB, I thought the food truck was a bit lame. NBC made such a big deal about this free lunch thing that I was convinced this would be the cheap food event of 2010. It was hardly even the best lunch I've had this week -- and it's Monday! All of the food was cut into half portions. Even the hot dog! WTF? I paid $4.50 for a round trip subway ride and came all the way from 14th St for half a bland hot dog? My guest, who also paid $4.50 and brought her 3 week old baby only got half of a mini-burger - which she said was actually pretty good. We even split the Croque Monsieur and we still went home hungry. The only saving grace was the raspberry vanilla mousse that came with each dish. It was actually pretty damn good. Nice save. 

Screw it. Next time, I'm just going to stick with the CheapEatery.com menus. I might not break a story like Boulud and his six nipples but at least I won't go home hungry.
